A first publication of verses by the poet, Sumerologist, translator and senior researcher in the State Hermitage’s Department of the East Veronika Afanasyeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences, in a book with illustrations by the Hermitage’s Chief Artist, Victor Pavlov, made in a xerographic technique of his own invention.

During the many years he worked in the country’s largest museum, Victor Pavlov was involved in the organization and artistic conception of over 500 exhibitions in Russia and abroad, as well as designing a large number of books on art. He was awarded the medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” Second Class.

The publication includes 15 illustrations executed in a xerographic technique of the artist’s own invention that he began using in the early 1990s. A photocopy is taken of a drawing, with the graphic intensity of the print being varied. The resulting image is supplemented with Indian ink, occasionally with colour, and quite often scratched or scraped. Experiments with graphic techniques link Pavlov’s works with such a cultural phenomenon as the World of Art movement of the turn of the 20th century.
