The work of the Persian poet Hafiz Shirazi is rated highly not only in the Near and Middle East, but around the whole world. In this publication, the great writer’s verses are accompanied by the works of two eminent artists: Bahman Panahi, a master of modern calligraphy from Iran, and the painter and graphic artist Rashid Dominov.

The Persian poet and Sufi shaikh Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī (1326–1389/90) is one of the greatest figures in world literature. He was known as a hafiz – someone who can recite the whole Quran by heart.

Hafiz’s oeuvre represents the highest achievement of mediaeval Persian lyric poetry. His verses have been translated into all European and many Asian languages.

    
Work on the bibliophilic publication Hafiz Shirazi. Forty Poems began in December 2016. The first copy of the book was completed in April 2019.

The texts of the poems are presented as original calligraphic compositions in the Perso-Arabic script and Russian translations.

The beautiful writing was done by an outstanding exponent of modern Iranian calligraphy – Bahman Panahi, a Doctor of Fine Art and musician who studied under the great master calligraphers Amirkhani, Foradi and Kaboli. His compositions are executed in a mixed style that is a personal interpretation of the classic styles of Persian fine handwriting.

The Russian translations of the poems were printed on a 19th-century Dingler hand press.

The publication includes 21 original illustrations executed by the painter and graphic artist Rashid Dominov in his own mixed style.

Dominov has been described as a master of contemplation. The sources of his inspiration are the Persian book miniature, Arab architecture and the culture of Syria, Iran and Jordan.

The case, cover and endpapers of the book were made using a silk with a unique pattern created by the textile artist Yelena Shnaider using the old pochoir hand-stencilling technique.
