The Twelve Poems is one of the publishing house’s early books, featuring a handwritten text and lithographs created by Andrei Pakhomov. The publication is one of a cycle of books from the artist containing texts by ancient writers – Plato, Sappho, Anacreon and Philodemus, while also having additional value as a reminder of the start of the publishing house’s history.
Participants in the work on this publication:
Creator of the illustrations, layout, design of the cover, handwritten texts; execution of the forms for copper reliefs on the cover — Andrei Pakhomov
Printing of the lithographs — Sergei Yashin
Binding work — Andrei Degtev, Andrei Kulikov
The Russian translations of the poems were taken from the anthology Antichnaya lirika (Moscow: Khudozhestvennaya literatura, 1968).
The texts of the twelve works were written by the artist's hand.
The front cover carries a female torso, the back cover a male one. Together they symbolize one of the main themes of Anacreon’s lyric poetry – love and a passion for amorous adventures. The copper reliefs are also the work of the book’s artist, Andrei Pakhomov.
The book has a storage case decorated with fabric.
